Negotiation Skills for Employer Engagement (2024)
Course Description:
Let's face it; most of us likely did not enter the field of Vocational Rehabilitation expecting to be a salesperson. Yet, the ability to “sell” Vocational Rehabilitation services and negotiate win-win outcomes is an important aspect of the VR Counselor's job.
While not the traditional commission-based sales job, the ability to succinctly describe your job, VR services, and your consumer needs to others is something VR professionals are doing daily. In essence, you are “selling” your services to every new applicant at intake, as well as to referral sources, service providers, and most importantly, to help you accomplish your goal of job placement/job retention, to employers in your community.
A significant piece to successful salesmanship is the art of negotiation. This course will cover the basics associated with effective negotiation skills in general, but with a focus on negotiating with employers when conducting job development/job placement. You will also have an opportunity to practice applying those skills through VR case studies.

- Learn key skills required in the art of negotiation
